THE LINE-UP
12 noon: The Susan Cowsill Band
12:20 pm: The Cowsills (Los Angeles, CA)

Opening this year's festivities, PCP is proud to present The Susan Cowsill Band, followed by a rare Texas performance by '60s pop sensations The Cowsills. Susan Cowsill is one of our finest singers and songwriters, and her excellent band (Russ Broussard, Tad Armstrong, and Aaron Stroup) are among New Orleans' finest. Meanwhile, The Cowsills--real-life models for the smash hit Partridge Family '70s TV series--burst onto the American music scene in the late '60s as America's first great all-family pop group, charting massive hits with songs like "The Rain, The Park and Other Things" and the hit single version of "Hair." What many don't realize is that the group has remained together, producing one of the great lost power pop records in the '90s with Global. The lineup for this performance will include lead singer/songwriter Bob, Susan, and Paul Cowsill, backed by Ryan Cowsill, as well as members of the Susan Cowsill Band.  http://wwww.susancowsill.com  http://cowsill.com/home.html

1:15 pm: The Slits  (London)
No band has carried the flag for the liberating punk '77 ethos better than London's Slits. One look at the legendary Punk Rock Movie, in part documenting the group's early days, will give you a taste for their chaotic beginnings: All the rules--of gender, of politics, of status quo rock-band composition--were being systematically chucked through the window. Foreshadowing the subsequent DIY movement with a kind of anything-can-happen approach, the Slits challenged their audience with Cut, one of the touchstone records of all of punk, and one that, for once, made good on the reggae and world music pulsing through the Clash, the Ruts, and the rest of the London Underground. "They shocked a lot of people, both on and off stage," wrote Sniffin' Glue's Mark Perry. "They were dangerous, and their very presence threatened those that considered rock to be a male-only pursuit."

2 pm: Magic Christian (featuring the Plimsouls' Eddie Munoz, drumming legend Clem Burke, and the Flamin' Groovies' Cyril Jordan)  (San Francisco, CA)
Magic Christian are the most exciting and rockin' new band from the Bay Area in ages. Led by legendary Flamin' Groovies' frontman/guitarist/songwriter Cyril Jordan and lead singer Paul Kopf, the man who created the BayPop festivals, the band now boasts the mightiest rhythm section on the West Coast, courtesy of Eddie Munoz of the Plimsouls (who plays lead and rhythm guitar on record, bass at live shows) and Rock 'n 'Roll Hall of Fame inductee Clem Burke on drums--Blondie's skinsman. Come see why they're quick becoming known as one of the best live bands around, shake some action, and hear songs from their upcoming full-length studio CD. www.magicchristian.net

3 pm: The Service Industry (Austin, TX)
Veterans of last year's PCP shindig, where they scored national media coverage for their appearance, The Service Industry are among the best bands in Austin. The band boasts one of the most exciting frontlines in Texas, with powerful, mercurial lead singer Mike McCoy (Cher UK), the lovely and talented Julie Lowery (Fire Marshals of Bethlehem) on lead and harmony vocals, Robbie Araiza (The Way Outs) and Andy Thomas (Rockland Eagles) on smokin' twin lead guitars, and a hot rhythm section featuring Hunter Darby (Wannabes, Dung Beatles) on bass and vocals, and terrific new drummer Travis Garrafa (Picket Line Coyotes). The band are celebrating the release of their sophomore album, Limited Coverage (Sauspop Records), another classic ode to musicians everywhere who suffer for their art  by working demeaning day (or night) jobs in bookstores, restaurants, and bars all over America. Don't miss their instant classic pop/rock hit--prison song via Cheap Trick, says critic Greg Beets--"Have To Go To Work," appearing on the spring/summer '08 PCP sampler.   http://www.sauspop.com/    http://www.theserviceindustry.net/

4 pm: The Rite Flyers (Austin, TX)
Austin supergroup the Rite Flyers are flying again! Led by Steve Collier (ex-Doctors' Mob) and John Clayton (ex-Balloonatic), and now with Fastball's Joey Shuffield on drums and ex-Sixteen Deluxe man Steven Thomas Hall on bass, the Flyers spin out sparkling uber-melodic Beatlesque guitar pop with the best of them. With a previous LP on the Paisley Pop Label and a brand-new, addicting-as-hell EP, Suffer Fools Gladly, as well as a superlative opening slot for the recent Austin reunion of the Reivers, the Rite Flyers are once again one of Austin's hottest acts. http://www.myspace.com/theriteflyers

4:45 pm: The Stems  (Fremantle AUSTRALIA)
In what may stand as one of PCP's all-time great coups, the legendary Stems, one of the finest '60s-style psych/garage/power pop outfits of all time, will grace our Dog & Duck stage in what just may be their first-ever stateside appearance. The Australian rockers, who wowed the world with their 1987 At First Sight Violets Are Blue album, nominated as one of the top 100 Australian albums of all time by Rolling Stone magazine, are back in action, and have a brand new jangly feast, Heads Up, which belatedly makes good on their 1980s promise as one of the best, most tuneful turbocharged bands ever. Wrote one Australian newspaper of their show: "Their chiming indie-garage sound is timeless even in this air of nostalgia--Think Hoodoo Guru, then multiply it by a thousand!"       http://www.thestems.com.au/

5:45 pm: Antietam (New York, NY)
With Tara Key's intense jagged guitar windstorms and the band's rugged garage-band groove, Antietam (named after the Civil War battle deemed the bloodiest day in American history) remain one of the smartest, most singular bands ever to spring from the South. Originally from Louisville, Key and company have been indie stalwarts since their mid-'80s Homestead Records days. Describing their influences as ranging "from Neil Young, the Clash, the Stooges, Dead Moon, Eno and the Raiders to Chinese Opera, John Ruskin, Albert Pinkham Ryder, action painting, hitting the “sweet spot” in multiple sports, and the childhood game of 4-square," Antietam is set to debut songs from their epic new double-disc, triple vinyl Carrot Top release, Opus Mixtum. Smart, soulful indie rock doesn't get much better, and this set promises to be a rare treat. http://www.myspace.com/antietamnyc

6:30 pm: Radar Brothers   (Los Angeles, CA)

From their 1994 beginnings in LA, the Radar Brothers' tremulous folk/pop, descended from the shoegazers, but with their own unique twist, has been a perpetual bright spot in the indie rock landscape. Deliberate, wistful, reflective, led by singer/songwriter Jim Putnam, the Radars might sport influences ranging from the Byrds to Pink Floyd, but they have a sonic texture quite unlike anyone else. Auditorium, their fifth album and their latest magnum opus on Merge Records, could be their most impressive set yet.      http://www.mergerecords.com/      http://www.radarbros.com/
